Living a Life of Obedience

Today is the day for obedience. Oh wait, that doesn’t work for me…ok, how about tomorrow? Wait a second that’s my hair appointment; can I take a rain check? Obedience is a funny thing, you either are or you aren’t going to be obedient. Our slew of excuses range from almost understandable to silly, but no matter what the conclusion is to failing to adhere to the direction God is sending, they all fall into the same garbage heap under the title “excuses.”

Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:61:62

Love and attachment of your family is not the issue here. I feel God is getting at the heart of the matter, which is excuses. You could exchange in that same sentence, “I will follow you, but  let me first __________ (fill in the blank).” Whatever area of life God is calling you to be obedient to, if there is a slew of excuses accompanied to it, it is time to check your priorities.

108 times God uses the word immediately in the NKJV. Why is this word so important? Because it shows the quick response in obedience. They don’t take the time to stew and allow the hindrances such as fear and hesitation to block them from being obedient and trusting God to be faithful to guide them through whatever obstacles are in their way.

They immediately left [their] nets and followed Him.

Matthew 4:20

Delayed obedience is disobedience

Priscilla Shirer

Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit

Mark 13:11

Immediately obeying is a true test of trust in God because you are relinquishing control to a God that sees the big picture. Sometimes we fail to want to move until we also see the big picture…yet, that may never come, so would that mean that your obedience may also not come?

Let everyday be a faith walk of trusting God with His plans for your day and watch your life be a testimony that you trust in a God Who’s ways are far above our ways.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower
and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:8-11
