Rest for the Weary

Come to Me all who are weary, and heavy burden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Always on the Go

We are a society always on the go, looking to the future instead of appreciating the present is a common theme. We work ourselves to the bone emotionally and physically, trying to get ahead, to some day attain rest. For most of us rest is an enigma. Even while we are “resting” our mind wanders onto what has to be accomplished the next day, the next week, the next year.

Let Go, Let God

How do we stop feeling guilty about the past, remove our anxiety from the present, and stop worrying about the future? It’s not instantaneous. You can’t all of a sudden say this is what the Bible says, so that is exactly what I am going to do and feel. Your heart has got to let go, and let God work.

Trust God

You have to be willing to trust God to believe that He has it all under control, and that He wants the best for you.  This is a constant battle for me. Trust God? What if He didn’t get the memo exactly how I wanted my life to be lived out? We have to get to the point where we relinquish control to our great big God. Hard?…very. Doable?…Yes.  Unfortunately, it usually occurs when we are at the end of our rope. We have exhausted every resource we can possibly use, and we finally realize that “apart from God we are nothing.” (John 15:5)

Productive To Rest

It is productive to Rest. We can not go 100% all of the time. We need to refuel so we will be ready to run the race God has prepared for us. God was our example. When He created the heavens and the earth, I doubt He physically needed to rest on the seventh day, but like many things God has done for us, He presented an example on how we should live. It is just as important to let your body rest, as it is for your body to train.

Rest in Christ

Many may think I am crazy. Rest…? The house will go in an uproar, the children will mutiny, the pets won’t get fed, and I won’t be able to see my floor! But honestly, try to pick a day, or even just a block of time, where you eliminate anything but the bare essentials and just bask in the glory of God. Thank Him for His many blessings, relax and appreciate that we don’t have to do this all on our own. We are our hardest critics and make our lives harder than they have to be. Walk in the light of obedience and let God be God.

Be still and know that I am God
